OUR STORY

A love affair with the sea

The sea is the ultimate expression of life. It represents the  birth and death, movement and calm, assurance and uncertainty.

It reminds us that we cannot control or tame it at our own mercy.

The idea came to me one day when I was sitting on rock by the shore, surrounded by the unbearable noise of engines running at full throttle, which were staining the clear waters as they passed.

Frustrated, I noticed an old llaüt (traditional Majorcan boat) moored up.

The waves rocked it silently, caressing its flawless wood and splashing its mast, indestructible in the wind. There was a perfect fusion between the sea and the boat, as if the one were looking after the other.

In that moment, I could see that there was only one way to protect the sea from the clutches of human pollution.

So I committed all my knowledge and years of experience as a woodworker and boatbuilder to finding a more sustainable and efficient solution to the production of pleasure craft. And at the same time, I was able to able to honour and rekindle the craftmanship of the ancient mestres d’aixa (boatbuilders) who succeeded in creating real works of art on the sea.

Just like old llaüts we’ve withstood storms, headwinds and navigation with no direction in mind, but we’ve never stopped rowing towards our shared destination.

We put calm before speed, silence before noise, handcraft before mass production, electric energy before fossil fuels and tradition before passing fads.

But, above all, we want to keep on enjoying the sea and nature, the only way we know how, with deep love and respect.

OUR VALUES

About us

The heart and hands of craftspeople

We carefully handcraft every boat that leaves our boatyard. Behind each boat lies ours of sacrifice, effort and absolute dedication.

We're bringing back the profession of the mestre d'aixa and the craftsman, with more efficient processes that respect tradition without overlooking innovation.

We embrace
uniqueness

We don't just stop at building functional boats, we create works of art worthy of a spot in a museum. A boat with the personality and character of its owner.

That’s why we are indebted to people who appreciate originality, one-offs and extraordinary work. Those boaters who are seeking something different.

We are moved by
challenges

Each boat is a new challenge that stimulates us and gives us the opportunity to be better every day.

We seek the highest quality and excellence in everything we do, exploring new solutions, learning from mistakes, introducing changes and evaluating the results to continue moving forward.

We practice
honest sustainability

We want to eliminate the devastating effects that the traditional naval industry has had on the sea. We want to provide cleaner, more efficient and environmentally friendly solutions.

We have an active role—not a passive one—in protecting our planet. Our commitment to sustainability permeates everything we do.

We choose
to live slowly

Slow living allows us to enjoy the journey.
Every good thing requires time and patience.
So we love to get away from the immediacy and speed that distracts us from being present, from being in the here and now.

Our boats are calm and peaceful, so people can enjoy sailing and abandon themselves to the natural beauty that surrounds them.

OUR COMMITMENT

Educating on nautical sustainability

Verata is a participant in the European TecoNaut project, which is part of the Erasmus+ programme, alongside Majorca’s boatyards, universities and international vocational training schools, aiming to drive sustainability in the maritime industry.

By training future sector professionals in the use and application of new renewable materials with a low environmental impact, we smooth the transition towards shipbuilding that is more respectful, efficient and sustainable for our planet.

We partner with the Centre de la Mar, SeaTeach, GreenBoats, Innovationyachts and the Lycée Professionel Germaine Poinso-Chapuis, a vocational high school in Marseille.
